How long does a car detail take?
The honest answer is a range, and the range is not evasion — it is the vehicle, the condition and the service level doing the work. Here is what moves the clock, and how to plan around it.
Every detailing quote comes down to how long the work takes.

Detailing prices look arbitrary from outside. They are not, and the underlying rule is simple enough to state in one line: the price is the time, and everything else is a factor that changes how long the work takes.
Here is what moves it.
The obvious one, and the least interesting. A three-row SUV has more glass, more carpet, more seats and roughly twice the paint of a compact sedan. Every step on the checklist takes longer because there is more of it.
What surprises people is that height matters as much as length. A tall van or a lifted truck means a roof that cannot be reached from the ground, which is slower and needs more equipment than the same surface area on a sedan.
Anything measured by the foot rather than sorted into a body style — a boat, a motorhome, a trailer — is priced from the measurement instead, because a category would be meaningless across an eighteen-foot and a forty-foot example of the same thing.
This is the factor that moves a quote most, and the one most often left out of an online price.
Interior only, exterior only, both, or both plus machine work on the paint. Each level is a longer list of steps rather than the same list done better — the standard does not change between them.
The one that genuinely costs more is anything involving a machine polisher, because that work is measured in hours per vehicle and cannot be compressed. Paint enhancement vs. paint correction explains what the difference buys.
Every add-on on a detailing menu is really a block of minutes with a name.
None of these should ever be preselected for you, and none should appear on an invoice you did not agree to before the work started.
For a mobile service this is real, though it is usually neutral. A driveway with room to work costs nothing extra. What can change a quote is a site that makes the work slower or restricts it: a tight underground garage, a vehicle in a storage yard with no lighting, a boat in a slip that has to be worked from a dock, a truck that can only be released for two hours between routes.
For fleets it becomes the largest factor in the other direction. Ten vehicles in one lot on one visit is dramatically more efficient than ten separate appointments, which is why fleet work is quoted per site rather than per vehicle.
A published grid of every service against every vehicle looks transparent and is usually the opposite — it quotes a figure for an average example of a category, and then the real quote arrives later and is different. What you get instead on our service pages is one honest starting figure for the smallest vehicle each service covers, with the rest worked out in the booking flow from the vehicle you actually have.
You see the complete figure before you confirm anything. Nothing is added on the day without your approval — if a vehicle needs more than it was booked for, the work stops and the number is put to you first.
And the cheapest thing you can do to a detailing bill has nothing to do with negotiating: see the vehicle more often, so each visit is upkeep rather than recovery. How often should you detail your vehicle works through what interval fits which vehicle.

Five minutes before we arrive buys you time on the vehicle instead of around it. Here is exactly what helps, what does not matter, and the two things worth telling us in advance.

A buyer forms an opinion in the first thirty seconds and spends the rest of the viewing confirming it. Here is which work moves that opinion, which does not, and when to book it.
